Date with a Five-Year-Old

My oldest nephew Chris recently turned 15, for his birthday this year I decided I to go for a visit over in Idaho, (but more about Chris later). Anyway, I flew down on a Wednesday night and didn’t get to see the younger kids until the next morning. Thursday morning I was awaken to the sounds of Drew (5) and Sydnie (2) downstairs eating breakfast and playing. After spending a few minutes with Sydnie, she went off to daycare. Chris was home not feeling to well and Drew and I planned on spending the day together while his mom and dad went to work.

Drew was so excited because he got a Pizza Hut coupon from Book-it and he couldn’t wait to get some pizza. We spend the morning playing games and making treasure maps together. Then we headed out to Pizza Hut.

At Pizza Hut, Drew ordered a Pepperoni and Pineapple little pizza. I got some breadsticks and a sausage and olive little pizza. We talked about school and stuff and it was fun.

Then, I asked Drew if he wanted to see a movie, which he said he wanted to see “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs.” We came back to his house for a little after lunch and played “Guess Who” until movie time.

We got to the movies a little early, so Drew came up to the front seat and drew some pictures while we waited. We shared some popcorn and gummy worms while we watched the movie. Drew did a good job watching the entire movie. He got a little restless towards the end, but I’m still proud of him.

After the movie, we came back home again and waiting for everyone to get back from work. We all spent some time together before going to an award’s banquet for Chris’s soccer team.

It was a good day, spent with my youngest nephew. I’m glad we got to spend some time together.
